Heroes of Newerth is now free-to-play

29 July 2011

S2’s popular DOTA clone online multiplayer battle arena action RPG whotsit has just upgraded to freemium level.

New players now have the option of signing up for a Basic account, which upgrades to a Verified account after a certain number of play hours have been clocked in. Those of you who’d already paid for the game get automatic Legacy status, with matchmaking putting you up against other Legacy and Verified players only. Legacy players will also be able to buy new heroes before everybody else.

“With the transition to free-to-play we’re opening Heroes of Newerth up to new audiences as our players can now easily introduce the game to their friends,” says Marc DeForest, co-founder of S2 games. “With the new account types and match-making standards in place, both novice and existing players will benefit from the upgraded structure.”
