Diablo III mods “expressly prohibited”

1 August 2011

In news that will almost certainly prompt outraged online petitions, threats of piracy, and calls to boycott the game by people who want to make character trainers so they can get stuff without making an effort, Blizzard has announced that Diablo III won’t support mods.

In fact, it’s more than just not supporting mods, they’re banning them outright. That’s according to a game FAQ obtained by Kotaku at this weekend’s Diablo III presser, which states that:

Q: Will Diablo III include support for bots and/or mods?

A: No, for a variety of gameplay and security reasons, we will not be supporting bots or mods in Diablo III, and they’ll be expressly prohibited by our terms of use for the game.

So sorry, guys. You’ll just have to complete that set in the other old-fashioned way – by playing the actual game. I know it’s hard.

Blizzard has also recently revealed that Diablo III requires an always-on internet connection, and features an auction service to sell off your excess stuff for real cash. The only thing they’re not revealing is a launch date.
