Valve confirms DOTA 2 at Gamescom, 2011 launch

2 August 2011

Turns out Valve’s not just dragging DOTA 2 along to Gamescom, they’re bringing it in style – with a tournament and a $1 million cash prize to the winning team. I even typed that in Dr Evil’s voice.

The tourney will have 16 of the world’s top DOTA teams battling it out in a double elimination playoff during the five-day gaming expo in Germany later this month. That’s probably also a significant percentage of the world’s most potty-mouthed 13-year olds, so it’s kind of a double-whammy.

The competition will apparently be streamed online with Chinese, German, Russian, and English commentary, for those DOTA fans who can’t be there to witness this historic event in person.

Additionally, Valve has announced that the game will be out “later this year” for PC and Mac.

Gamescom is happening 17-21 August, and MyGaming is sending James over to make sure the kids play nice, and bring back salted liquorice for everybody in the office.
