MW3 trailer: exploding dogs, WW3, and spec ops

10 August 2011

Activision last night released a brand new gameplay trailer for Modern Warfare 3 specifically meant to showcase the game’s Spec Ops Survival Mode.

The return of attack dogs should come as no surprise. However, in the multiplayer video the words “enemy attack dogs are near your position, be advised they are carrying explosives,” accompanies the release of enemy attack dogs. Unless the dogs are carrying the explosives to hand-over to you, it seems pretty safe to assume that they will be explodable. šŸ™

Spec Ops Survival Mode looks like the classic Gears of War Horde inspired mode whereby players have to survive endless waves of enemies for as long as possible. Players will be able to call in AI controlled team mates and even a riot shield squad to hide behind.

The trailer also gives us a glimpse of some in-game items that players can buy, including claymores, C4, the auto-turret and an automatic grenade launcher.

The trailer also reveals that players will have armour that will work on a 1-100 scale. Whether or not this feature will be present in the regular multiplayer mode or isolated to spec-ops remains to be seen.

The AC-130 will be making a return in Modern Warfare 3, after being absent in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It looks like it might work a little differently though, with the video indicating that players will call the AC-130 strike in using a cloud of purple smoke.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 8 November, 2011.
