[UPDATE] It’s official, we’ve got a picture of it now and everything. Oh, and Nintendo’s swiped the console’s backwards compatibility, so no GameCube games or hardware are supported anymore. Boo! Turns out the redesign was mostly just taking out those expansion slots.
The original Wii is getting a bit of a makeover, according to a report over on the Official Nintendo Magazine’s site.
The article claims that “a streamlined white Wii with a slightly altered configuration, which is designed to sit horizontally rather than vertically” is due to launch in the UK (and, presumably, elsewhere) as an Xmas promo. It’s apparently bundled with Wii Party and Wii Sports, as well as a Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk controllers.
Seems pretty legit considering they’re the Official Nintendo Magazine and everything, although it does seem a rather odd move considering the Wii U is expected to launch sometime next year already. Besides, is there really anybody on the planet who doesn’t already have a Wii?
If it’s true, though, it’ll be the first significant revision for the console since the Wii launched in 2006. Since then, it’s seen just a few different colour editions, which don’t really count.
