CS: Global Offensive will support Playstation Move

27 August 2011

Any Valve game is generally something to get excited about, but when Valve is making a sequel to a game with as an enormous following as Counter-strike, it’s really time to sit up and take notice. This certainly won’t be a clone on a different engine either such as Counter-strike: Source, Valve clearly has big plans for the next installment in this power-house franchise.

Very recently we found out that in addition to being released on all the major FPS platforms, the game will be supporting cross-platform play – allowing PS3 and PC users to duke it out online.

On the heels of this, Valve has now announced that the PS3 version of the game will include Playstation Move support, as well as keyboard and mouse support.

This is big news for Valve, as they were very anti-PS3 at the time of its release, mostly due to the console’s additional requirements for multi-threaded coding. Valve has since done a bit of an about-face since Sony allowed them to install a custom edition of Steam on their console, with Newell saying, “They’ve done the scary thing and I think it’s up to us as developers to make sure Sony and its customers are rewarded.”

Counter-strike: Global Offensive will mark Valve’s first motion-control supported console game, and one which may genuinely appeal to hardcore gamers. The Playstation Move has had many a skeptical eye aimed at it, but a big release such as this may have many more willing to buy into the technology.

Meanwhile, the multiplayer FPS scene will eagerly await the game’s early 2012 release.
