Modern Warfare 3 LAN support confirmed

8 September 2011

When Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was building up for launch in 2009 a storm of controversy surrounded the PC version decisions to drop dedicated server support, do matchmaking through the peer-to-peer IWNET, and remove LAN support.

Outraged gamers threatened to boycott the game; we all know how that turned out – Modern Warfare 2 went on make Activision over US1$ billion in sales revenue in the two months of its launch, and it broke records as the most successful entertainment launch in history, only to be usurped by Black Ops the next year.

Recently Modern Warfare 3 PC dedicated servers were confirmed, and it appears PC gamers have some more good news to celebrate.

Modern Warfare 3 LAN support has been confirmed by Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling via his official twitter account, @fourzerotwo.

“Lots of competitive questions from #XP2011. Yes, #MW3 has LAN along with detailed class restriction control + default class creation option,” tweeted Bowling.

He followed up with some snippets of information on the level of customisation one can expect on the LAN server settings: “@OD_DiCE Ability to restrict any weapon, equipment, perk, deathstreak, secondary, attachment, ANYTHING from being used when setting up game.”

Recently, the pricing and features of the attached opt-in premium subscription service, Call of Duty Elite, were also revealed.
