Nintendo 3DS sales enjoy a major increase

10 September 2011

In this week’s edition of news that will blow your mind, we find out that people are more likely to buy things if they’re cheaper.

Nintendo recently made a drastic price cut to their flailing handheld, the 3DS, and the move is apparently paying off, with a sales increase mega-seller Gamestop has described as “significant”.

To put that in less ambiguous terms, Nintendo has said that since the price cut they’ve sold 185,000 units – significant indeed.  This spike represents an increase of more than 260 percent from the same 19-day time period in July, pre-cut.

Scott Moffit, Nintendo America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing (try fitting that on a business card), had this to say: “Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS. With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.”
