British broadcaster ITV has apologised after showing a fan-made clip of ArmA 2 (released in 2009) gameplay as part of a documentary, claiming it was a secret Irish Republican Army propaganda film from 1988.
The video, which has a helicopter being shot down, was – according to the documentary makers, that is – footage of the IRA using weapons supplied by recently ousted Libyan dictator, Colonel Gaddafi.
…Looool. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried, but apparently somebody over at ITV can.
The broadcaster has since issued an apology, blaming “human error”. I’d call it “human stupidity”, but whatever.
“The events featured in Exposure: Gaddafi and the IRA were genuine but it would appear that during the editing process the correct clip of the 1988 incident was not selected and other footage was mistakenly included in the film by producers,” said ITV.
“This was an unfortunate case of human error for which we apologise.”
