The PS Vita has had a somewhat controversial start, with many potential buyers unhappy about the poor battery life and optional, bulky battery pack.
On the heels of this comes another blow – the 3G version of the Playstation Vita will have a file size cap of twenty megabytes. This is bad news for those planning on downloading digital versions of premium games this way, as twenty megabytes just isn’t going to cut it.
Both WiFi and and 3G Vita users will still have access to the Playstation Store to buy new content. Somy have said the download limit could change in the future, but gave no indication as to why or when.
This information comes from a Sony rep, who also said that Sony is working with developers in order to ensure that the download and upload speeds of the device, 128Kbps and 64Kbps respectively, do not affect multiplayer gaming.
While this news certainly isn’t as significant as the battery pack, as some users may not have been much interested in the 3G functionality anyway, it is certainly disappointing to many, and not the kind of press the Vita needs right now. We’ll have to wait until Vita’s release to see if this affects sales of the 3G variant.
