While they’re quick to point out that “many folks are playing Rage on PC and not running into issues”, Bethesda have acknowledged the technical problems with the game.
According to a thread that popped up on the Steam forums, some users are experiencing quite a number of technical issues with the PC version of Rage – ranging from graphics cards not working, and Vsync problems to low-quality textures popping up and the game simply crashing.
Bethesda responded to complaints in their blog, saying that the problems can be attributed to driver issues, and that they’re currently working with AMD and Nvidia to resolve them.
According to Nvidia’s games and technology editor, Andrew Burnes, a lot of the graphical issues are because of Rage’s Auto-Balancer, which adjusts textures and effects automatically (gif image) so that the game never drops below 60fps.
He posted an article filled with ways to work around the problem.

Driver issues aside, one of the most prominent complaints on the thread seems to be the inability to set custom settings for video cards; something that Bethesda are now aware would annoy PC gamers.
“We’re currently working on an update that will allow you to more easily make configuration changes… should have more details on that shortly.” they wrote.
