Rumour control: Halo movie out in 2012, Spielberg directing

6 October 2011

This might all turn out to be some kind of hilarious misunderstanding / mistranslation / misdemeanour, but according to a French press release accompanying the latest Halo novel, Cryptum, there’s a Halo movie in production over at DreamWorks, directed by Steven Spielberg, and due out in 2012.

The news comes through the rather convoluted channel of Halo.fr, who originally posted a scan of the press kit, which was then translated by the people over on Halo.Bungie.org, and passed onto the entire internet via NeoGAF.

“A film adaptation is set [for release] in 2012,” reads the text. “It will be conducted jointly by two heavyweights of American cinema: Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks.”

It’s not the first time Spielberg’s been associated with a Halo film either – back in October last year, industry spies reported that DreamWorks (co-owned by Spielberg) was shopping around for the relevant licences.

For the moment, of course, nobody at 343 Industries or Microsoft is saying anything about it.
