Who remembers the PSP Go? Not many people here in South Africa, that’s for sure.

The whole premise behind the Go was to remove the need for physical disks and instead adopt a digital download-only model for getting games onto the portable.
Obviously, that failed.
However, with the PSP Vita, Sony have learned their lesson – a very expensive one at that.
Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, recently told Edge, when questioned about the download-only model they dropped, that too many markets are simply not geared to deal with digital downloads:
“We believe the time is still not right to go download-only as a platform. Some PS Vita titles, like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, will be close to 4GB in size, which could be too large to download for consumers who do not have a fast broadband connection.”
Like, say, consumers in South Africa, maybe?
The harsh reality of the PSP Go’s failure to make any real impact in the market has obviously made Sony sit back and rethink their strategy more carefully in localized areas.
Which will likely work out better for them moving forward as they prepare to launch the PSP Vita here and everywhere else.
