Mythic beasts descend on Minecraft

8 October 2011

A big part of indie smash-hit Minecraft’s success is the constant updating by creator Markus “Notch” Persson, which keeps the experience as dynamic as possible.

Well known for being very interactive with the community and relatively open about upcoming plans, the good-natured programmer has now tweeted that he is “developing epicness” for Minecraft.

The internet was obviously not going to let that go without a fight, and after the inevitable interrogation from his Twitter followers, Notch has caved and revealed that the Minecraft universe will be getting dragons.

While he admits the dragons are from being finished, the provided picture is unmistakably dragon-esque, if a bit dull and gray for now.  He has not as of yet provided much information on how the dragons will actually behave.

It’s always good to see a passionate developer continue to update and tweak their game long after release, and the Minecraft universe is open-ended enough that almost anything is possible. No doubt we’ll be seeing plenty more of the weird and wonderful in coming months.

In the meantime, check out the half-finished dragon:
