Next Xbox dashboard update due out in November

10 October 2011

Microsoft’s next big semi-annual Xbox dashboard update is apparently due to go live on 25 November (or “Black Friday”, in Americanish), according to a report over on GigaOM.

The update includes channel apps for a massive list of participating partners and providers, including HBO, LOVEFiLM, and the BBC; but nothing that applies in South Africa because we’re not important enough.

And because our local TV channels kind of suck.

A YouTube app is also featured.

There are also some new Kinect voice recognition and gesture controls added in, which will really only matter to people who’d prefer to say, “Xbox, play disc” than press a button on the controller.

GigaOM notes that the update is built on a modified version of Microsoft’s Silverlight framework, dubbed Lakeview.

“The goal is to quickly mature the platform, with the potential of enabling other third-party developers to eventually use the Lakeview framework to build their own apps for the Xbox 360 console,” writes Ryan Lawler.
