In news that will probably only surprise a moon rock, DICE has confirmed that the launch of Battlefield 3 will be followed by, presumably, a series of launches of additional DLC.
Hey, it’s what all the cool and trendy devs are doing these days, and DICE wouldn’t want to not be cool and trendy.

Talking to MCV, Battlefield 3 creative director and lead designer Lars Gustavsson reveals that the dev has big plans for DLC. Huge. Massive, even.
“We’ve completely restructured our studio around it,” he said on the topic of post-launch content for the game.
“Nowadays, we have operations team who looks at the title when it starts getting closer to launch (or long before) with potential downloadable content and so on, to really have a plan. Otherwise you’re quite likely to start slipping. If you’re focusing just before release on what you’re going to ship post-launch, then I think you have problems.”
“So, yes there is a massive plan in place.”

To be fair, the Vietnam expansion for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was absolutely brilliant, so if they’re planning on doing more of that kind of thing, I’ll take it.
I’m cool and trendy like that.
