A new Shadowrun game is in development

13 October 2011

In news that came out of nowhere, it turns out that Jagged Alliance Online dev Cliffhanger Productions has top-secretly been working on a new Shadowrun game.

The franchise – originally a traditional pen-and-paperware RPG, first published in 1989 – has already seen a number of video game adaptations, most recently an FPS that tanked on PC and Xbox back in 2007.

This time around, Cliffhanger is taking what they’ve learnt from Jagged Alliance Online, taking the game into an overhead 3D perspective, adding the word “Online” to it, and releasing it for browsers.

“This means anyone can access it at any time from their PC, no downloading, no hassle,” reads the announcement over on the official Cliffhanger Productions site.

The devs are also working with “a group of current and previous editions writers and artists and Shadowrun alumni who have worked on the pen and paper game or had their hands in Shadowrun mods or community work” to maximise brand authenticity and hardcore anorak appeal.
