Minecraft Feature Freeze imminent

17 October 2011

In two days’ time, notch is executing his Minecraft feature freeze – yup, the game is finally heading into the final phase of development.

Over the past few weeks, the guys at Mojang have been adding and releasing small updates to the game, cramming in as much as they can for the upcoming release in November.

Included in those releases was this rather epic dragon that, according to notch, destroys everything it touches and is completely invulnerable.

Sounds like a challenge.

Obviously there’s a lot of tweaking to get through (including making the dragon some-what more fair), which is the whole point of the feature freeze.

No more additions, just debugging and testing and refining – making sure everything will run smoothly for the full, shiny Minecraft release.

We can’t wait!

You have until release to get your hands on the beta version of the game – which is basically a “pre-order” of sorts as it will be upgraded to the full game (at full price) upon release. Currently the beta goes for €14.95 (R165).

Minecraft Pocket Edition is also being expanded to other Android devices, and will also have features added to it the closer we get to MineCon and beyond.

Minecraft 1.0 is launching at MineCon, which is happening on the 18 – 19 November 2011.
