Disclaimer right up front here then, just in case you missed the “rumour” flag in the headline – this is entirely unconfirmed for the moment.
By all means, arrange your toys in strike deployment positions along the frontlines of your cot, but don’t throw them just yet.
So, according to one of Kotaku’s industry moles, a recent “company-wide” meeting over in Dallas, Bethesda and parent company ZeniMax Media have decided to “indefinitely postpone” development on DOOM 4.
The decision allegedly comes in the wake of a somewhat disappointing launch for id’s RAGE, which has seen mixed reviews and loads of technical issues, and led to a “a serious lack of confidence in the project management at id” by the publishers.
Seems a bit topsy-turvy, though, doesn’t it? I mean, why hold back a classic IP because a new IP bombed a bit? If anything, they should be hurrying it up so everybody can forget about RAGE.
