Japanese games rag Famitsu has published some fresh deets on Sony’s incoming handheld gaming device, the PlayStation Vita. Of course, we can’t read Japanese, so luckily adriasang has kindly translated the article.
According to Famitsu, Vita’s web browser will support Java, HTML5 and cookies, but not Flash, which is expected to be patched in later.
Additional revelations include:
– Sony is looking at ways to allow users to carry their save data from current generation PSPs over to Vita.
– A “portable charger” will be available, effectively doubling the capacity of Vita’s built in battery.
– Vita doesn’t use a memory stick or SD card, so the only way to get music and images to it will be via your PS3 or PC.
– It will possible to make gradual adjustments to Vita’s brightness.
– Quickly pressing the power button will put Vita into sleep mode.
Earlier today we published news of an indication on local PS Vita pricing, although nothing is official at this point.
Local online retailers have begun listing the device for pre-order, with Kalahari offering the 3G model for R3,299.95 (a “special” offer down from R3,799.95).
Takealot.com, lists the pre-order price for the Wi-Fi-only and 3G models at R2,799 and 3,499 respectively – but clearly stipulates that prices are subject to change.
We are still awaiting confirmation on local recommended retail pricing from Sony product distributor Ster Kinekor.
The PS Vita will be available in SA on 22 February 2012.
