Well it would appear the rumours were true.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriot has been officially announced, following a few weeks of the rumour mill doing it’s thing, and “leaked” information appearing online.
Like these screenshots.

The game is being developed by Assassin’s Creeed devs, Ubisoft Montreal – with some help from Ubisoft’s other studios in Toronto and Ubisoft Red Storm – for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
It will follow the Rainbow 6 team (as was the case in the prequels – Rainbow 6 Vegas and Vegas 2) and give gamers a single-player experience that follows multiple character perspectives.
How vague. Cue the PR robots:
“Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction,” said David Sears, creative director at Ubisoft.
“This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.”
So basically what he’s saying is that things will be the same, but different.
Helpful.

Luckily, the official announcement confirms a lot of “leaked” information that made its way onto Kotaku in the past few weeks – including the facts about the Rainbow 6 team taking on a home-grown (i.e. American) terrorist threat.
According to Ubisoft, they’re called the “True Patriots” are a highly-trained, “revolutionary” group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests.
Which it is; but, you know – only in the game, right?
The game is slotted in for a 2013 release – so obviously a lot more information will follow in the months to come; but in the mean time, check out the prototype gameplay video released by Ubisoft – which will give you an idea of what they at least are *aiming* to do.
