Modern Warfare 3 sells 9.3 million on launch day

11 November 2011

Haters gonna hate, maybe, but everybody else is gonna buy, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold almost ten million copies on day one, beating the previous day one sales record holder Call of Duty: Black Ops, which beat the previous day one sales record holder, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (etc.).

According to a report over on VGChartz, the game sold 9.3 million copies across all platforms, with more than half of those on Xbox, followed by PS3, with PC and Wii coming in a distant last at only 4% of total sales (or around 370 000 units combined).

The article also notes a pretty impressive fact – with 87 million Call of Duty games sold to date, and projected sales of 12 to 13.5 million in its launch week, Modern Warfare 3 is probably going to take that to 100 million by next Tuesday.

In related news, Battlefield 3 didn’t make much of a dent in Modern Warfare 3’s sales.
