Telkom DoGaming League

Last week Telkom DoGaming revealed its selection of games to be played competitively during the DoGaming League 2012.

Carrying over from 2011, we will see FIFA (PS3 and Xbox 360), Call of Duty 4 (PC) and StarCraft 2 (PC), while an impressive selection of new titles have been added to the roster.

Check out the full list of games to be played competitively in the DoGaming league 2012.

PC Games

Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare 3 carnage

I’m personally not convinced that Modern Warfare 3 is a serious contender for competitive play, however, with dedicated servers up and running smoothly and the ever present hope of mod tools being released down the line, the game may have a real future. Megarom is also dropping R50,000 in prizes, so that’s cool.

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3

2011’s most critically successful online PC shooter will be making a well deserved entry to DoGaming’s competitive scene next year. Among the PC gaming fraternity Battlefield 3 has been picked up extremely well and it would seem that its support base is even larger than Modern Warfare 3’s, so numbers should not be a problem. EA is dropping R50,000 in prize cash, so there will be something to play for.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter strike global offensive

A contentious inclusion because Global Offensive is still an unknown quantity and many competitive gamers would argue that Counter-Strike 1.6 should still be included. Time will tell if Valve‘s forthcoming tactical shooter succeeds in the local competitive PC gaming arena.

DOTA 2

Dota 2 is another unreleased Valve game that has already been confirmed for DoGaming’s 2011 competitive calendar. Like Global Offensive, not much is currently known about Dota 2, although original Dota developer Ice Frog is guiding the development process along with significant input from the global competitive Dota community, so it should turn out fine.

Call of Duty 4

Call of Duty 4

Making yet another reutrn to the local competitive scene, Call of Duty 4 is likely to once again be one of the most supported leagues. According to DoGaming, the CoD4 2011 league attracted over 100 clans, and Telkom sponsored R80,000 in prize cash. If 2012 can follow this success then CoD 4 is in for yet another strong competitive year.

StarCraft II

StarCraft II was arguably the strongest entry to the global and local competitive gaming scene last year, with Samsung giving away over R200,000 worth of prizes locally, and of course Polarfluke’s monthly event which continues to gain popularity. StarCraft II is an obvious selection for 2012’s competitive strategy game of choice.

rFactor

Catering to racing fans, DoGaming will be hosting an rFactor league in anticipation of the release of rFactor 2 in 2012.

The only game to be played in DGL 2012 across PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, Modern Warfare 3’s competitive league should have no shortage of numbers to draw from next year.
