And in today’s hottest new problem with a recently launched triple-A blockbuster, it seems the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has started turning up disc-read errors.
That’s according to a 14-page-and-getting-bigger thread over on the official Xbox.com forums, suggesting this isn’t an isolated issue. Apparently the game fails to start altogether, or starts only to crash some time later with an “Unrecognisable disc” or “Unable to read disc” message.
Interestingly, it seems to be confined to some consoles only, with the same disc working in a different console with no errors. Some users are reporting that swapping the game for a new copy isn’t working either.
Several interim fixes have been recommended, including the usual stuff about clearing the console’s cache and cleaning the disc with a soft cloth, although there’s no definitive solution yet.
Microsoft recently moved over to a new disc format for the Xbox, which may or may not be the real culprit behind this.
I guess the Modern Warfare 3 dev team can just add this one to the list after “Make Elite work, lol”.
