We don’t know much about Microsoft’s “really exciting” plans for its incoming cloud service on Xbox LIVE, but we do know now that it’s not going to be free.
Pretend to be, like, totally surprised and stuff.
The next dashboard update will include 512 MBs of cloud-based storage per user for gamertags and game saves, and according to a report over on Shacknews, this
“Roaming Profile” feature will be exclusive to Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers. Free subscribers will just have to go on using those antiquated flash disks instead, sorry.
Due out sometime later this year, the new dashboard has been rebuilt using Microsoft’s new-fangled Metro design language and adds other new features like live television, Bing voice search, a dedicated YouTube video channel, Skype integration, and improved support for Kinect voice commands alongside the cloud storage service.
Although Microsoft hasn’t confirmed a launch date, the dashboard is currently in a public beta.
