Some pictures of AMD’s soon to be announced Radeon HD 7900 graphics card have been leaked to the Beyond3D.com forums, and they appear to confirm last week’s rumours that the card will feature a 384-bit memory interface.

It is thought that journalists in possession of engineering samples of the card uploaded the images showing off the cards running in CrossfireX. The pictures have since been removed, but various online sources managed to copy and save them, including us.

Hardware enthusiasts noted that the card comes equipped with twelve memory chips, which suggests that it boasts a 384-bit memory interface. This is a first for AMD.

The card’s specs are still unknown, but we do know that they will boast a 28nm fabrication process, which means we can expect the HD 7000 series to be the most efficient graphics card range from AMD to date.

The leaked image also depicts the card with one 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector. These are engineering samples, so the final release cards may be a little different.

The inclusion of a 384-bit memory interface has been one of the core features which has enabled Nvidia to maintain its lead in the high-performance segment.

The GeForce GTX 580 is touted as being the fastest single GPU graphics card in the world, and this is partly attributed to the extra memory bandwidth.

In comparison, AMD’s competing card, the Radeon HD 6970 runs a 256-bit memory bus.

We are expecting AMD to release its HD 7000 series graphics cards early next year.
