SGS has announced the launch of the open beta for a new “Server on Demand” service. The new system will replace the previous clan server booking system and is a free service.
SGS says that the new Server on Demand service is lighter on resources and gives users more control over the servers they have booked.
Users can book a server for up to four hours a session to play clan matches and practices. At the start of the user’s booking, a server instance is spawned, and when the booking ends, the server instance is shut down.
The service offers the user full rcon access. When booking the server, the user is able to set what he or she would like the rcon password to be. The user can then control the server using the in-game console or by using a third party program such as Battlefield 3 Commander.
Another feature is the ability to upload your own server configuration files or select from a number of pre-approved configuration files. As the “Server on Demand” system is aimed at clans, the servers are not ranked.
Currently the service is in the open beta phase, supporting a limited number of games. The supported games include Counter-Strike: Source, Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3.
