2K Marin’s FPS re-imagining of the iconic X-COM strategy game franchise has been pushed back to 2013.
Not to be confused with Firaxis Games’ recently announced turn-based strategy reboot of the franchise, XCOM will now be released in 2013 as opposed to the previously anticipated 2012 release.
2K will still be rebooting the X-COM name in 2012, but that will be via the aforementioned turn-based strategy title, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
The revelation has been publicised in the most recent edition of Game Informer.
We got a chance to check out XCOM back at E3 in 2010.
From our hands on preview: “While the demo showed off an unforgiving eye for detail and focus on the era in which the game is set, it did not show off any of the depth which made the original games such classics. The X-Com games of the 90’s were strategic, and the XCOM demo we saw made no allusions to being a strategy game at all. One can’t deny it was packed with atmosphere, action, suspense and character, but there was no sense of anything really going on beneath the hood; a shortcoming which will surely alienate fans of the original games if not rectified before release.”
I was actually rather looking forward to this game. Was half expecting it to be to the XCom franchise what Fallout 3 was to the Fallout franchise. Bit disappointed that it’s been moved back.
