Alan Wake dev recruiting for “groundbreaking AAA console project”

16 January 2012

Remedy Entertainment has posted a job vacancy for a “Gameplay/AI Programmer” on an otherwise unnamed “groundbreaking AAA console project”.

So that rules out Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, due out next month, as well as the PC version of Alan Wake, scheduled to release sometime this year, but leaves lingering questions like “What is it then?”

Sounds like a case for Alan Wake.

Whatever it is, it’s built on the original Alan Wake and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare engine, which does rather seem to suggest it could be another Alan Wake game. Which wouldn’t be surprising, considering Remedy has been talking about a sequel that was already more or less written and ready to go since the first game launched in 2010.

Remedy’s back catalogue doesn’t present any other likely candidates, unless they’re planning to reboot Death Rally.

The studio’s other big brand, Max Payne, was sold off to Take-Two back in 2002, and is now Rockstar‘s thing.

So it’s either a completely new IP, or it’s Alan Wake 2. It’s probably Alan Wake 2. If it’s the latter, I’ll link back to this article when Remedy officially announces the game and say, “Totally called it”.
