In exciting news of the unverified and speculative persuasion, Valve might quite possibly be looking into perchance branching into Tux the Linux penguin’s territory. Maybe.
Earlier today on Valve Software’s corporate site, a job listing has been posted that goes something to the effect of:
“Lead engineer and architect on product integration into the highly available digital distribution platform called “Steam”. Utilize business/commerce background and engineering skills to drive next generation features for software developed by Valve.”
A key responsibility for would-be candidates includes porting “Windows-based games to the Linux platform.”
"I'm here for the Linux programming job."
Sounds pretty promising, doesn’t it? It’s not entirely unlikely either. The PWYW (Pay-What-You-Want) model, probably best implemented by the Humble and Indie Royale bundles, have already shown a strong support from Linux users, indicating a tangible demand from Linux gamers.
If you have a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering and at least two years of experience in stuff, then perhaps this is right up your alley. You might even help shake up the industry a bit.
Unless Valve is trolling us and this is all just an elaborate ruse to find someone to maintain their Linux servers. You decide!
