In case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few days, or just ignoring the news, the US government shut down software sharing website Megaupload last week.
According to Bloomberg, police had to cut Megaupload founder Kim Schmitz (aka Kim Dotcom) out of a safe room when they raided his mansion in Auckland, New Zealand.
When they eventually got through the thick walls of the safe-room they found Schmitz hiding in the room with what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun.
The website is accused of earning US$175 million in “illegal profits” as a result of enabling the sharing of copyright protected content.
The site’s two founders (Schmitz and Mathias Ortman) are being charged with violating piracy laws, although Schmitz is the only one to have been apprehended so far.
As it turns out, Schmitz is one of the best Modern Warfare 3 players in the world. Late last year he took the top spot on the game’s leader boards for recorded kills, and he has also previously held the Free-For-All crown.
Schmitz has claimed over 150,000 Modern Warfare 3 kills.
