What we’re playing this weekend (28-29 January 2012)

28 January 2012

Quinton Bronkhorst

I recently jumped through hoops and steep customs charges to bring Choas in the Old World into my life. If you’re wondering what that is, it’s a tabletop boardgame based on a Warhammer setting.

Well, after a couple of weeks of waiting (and hoping the SA Postal Service didn’t decide to park a truck on it or something), it’s finally arrived – so this weekend, I’m going to forego digital video games for a more traditional figure-based gaming experience. Nerd level up! No chance of rolling a save for my social life – but I don’t care.

This weekend I’m starting to build my DIY racing seat, so I’m not sure how much gaming I’ll get done between playing with power tools and welding bits of metal onto other bits of metal. Once the seat’s done I’ll probably spend time in a rear wheel drive Merc with too much power going sideways around the Nurburgring – because that’s how I roll.

Oh pleeeeeease hurry up, February AAA releases. My PS3 is terribly ronery.

Fortunately in the meantime there’s an absolutely stupid amount of top-notch iOS releases out, so I plan on twiddling my thumbs this weekend with the likes of Paper Monsters, Smash Cops, Jazz, LostWinds and Tongue Tied.

Tarryn van der Byl

My new Richard Morgan novel arrived from the UK, so I’ll be off my gamestations, sitting under a cool fan, sipping gin and tonic, nibbling chocolate truffles, and reading. Or playing Gears of War 3. I can’t decide.

We had a bit of fun making up captions for the last picture, so here are few more:

  • “Tarryn’s ‘booking’ this weekend off.”
  • “The Skyrim game manual is a real page-turner.”
  • “Tarryn’s restraining orders make for busy reading.”
  • “The list of Tarryn’s DUI charges was more than she anticipated.”

*Not really.

Nic Simmonds

This weekend I will promise myself a varied and dynamic gaming experience. I will plan to try out the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo, to work toward finishing off Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and to get back into StarCraft II.

In reality, I’ll end up being sucked into Battlefield 3 for hours on end. A group of friends, voice chat, some cold beers and Battlefield 3 = pure gaming nirvana.

This weekend I’m going to be madly dashing about in last minute preparation for a highly confidential international gaming news event. I could tell you more, but then i’d have to ban your forum account…

I’ll still find some time to stab Nic in the back while defending the Caspian Border.

No Mr. Simmonds... I expect you to die!

After the first four comments I was beginning to think nobody was going to be playing this weekend ;p

Must stab the MG team in BF3 sometime 😉
