Sims dev working on new “triple-A simulation style game”

30 January 2012

Maxis is hiring! Now, I know what you’re thinking – it’s probably just another Sims game. And it probably is. But Maxis also made SimCity, and there hasn’t been a new SimCity game for almost a decade now (NO, SimCity Societies doesn’t count), so maybe… maaaybe.

According to the job posting, Maxis is looking for a graphics engineer who “will be working with a highly talented and experienced team on an upcoming triple-A simulation style game.”

The details include meeting “performance requirements on a wide variety of PCs” as well as “good knowledge of the Xbox 360 and PS3 rendering architectures and APIs”, so whatever it is, it’s going out this generation.

Since SimCity 4 was released in 2003, Maxis has mostly focussed on the Sims brand (before handing it over to the Sims Studio ahead of the third game) and Spore; although 2010’s Darkspore got a bit of a tepid reception from critics.

A new Sim City would be awesome. Sim Planet may also be awesome!! Making space age planets with ecosystems and stuff and city’s on the planets (which one can zoom into and mangage), but that may be a bit large for 1 game to handle.
