Xbox LIVE banhammer boss announces his resignation

6 February 2012

After almost 18 years at Microsoft, Xbox LIVE policy and enforcement boss Stephen “Stepto” Toulouse has announced his resignation, and I’ve only just worked out what his alias means. It seems so obvious now.

Anyway, describing his reasons for leaving the company as “complex and personal”, Toulouse said on his blog that “This is a positive thing. I have nothing but confidence in the future of Microsoft and specifically Xbox and Xbox LIVE. I have enormous gratitude for my time there. I want to finish my next book, and explore other opportunities.

“So there it is. I have no idea what the future holds, for the first time in my life.

“This ought to be interesting!”

I’m sure plenty of people will now start posting conspiracy theories about Toulouse’s resignation and the recent scamming going around on Xbox LIVE.

The policy and enforcement team – whose job titles include the office of “Unicorn Ninja” – is responsible for monitoring the Xbox LIVE service, and banning malefactors. No replacement has been announced yet.

Nevermind the scamming, what about all of the pathetically excused bans that have been flying around lately?
