PSP UMDs not transferrable to PS Vita

8 February 2012
Sony PSVita Launch Details

Those big plans you had to move all your old PSP UMDs over to your new PS Vita? Better cancel them, and buy a hanky instead. Also, maybe hang onto that PSP for a bit longer.

Sony introduced a UMD Passport program in Japan alongside that lets PS Vita owners register their PSP UMDs on the PlayStation Network, and download them to their new handheld for a small fee – but no similar scheme is being offered elsewhere. At least, not for the moment.

PSP games bought on the PSN will be transferable to the PS Vita, though.

No explanation has been given for the decision, although that’s probably going to change when everybody on the internet has a fit about it, which is right about now. Watch this space.

The PS Vita launches in America, Europe, and locally on 22 February.

    Not a trainsmash.

Not like I was planning to bin my PSP when I get a PS Vita in any case 🙂
