Forza 4 American le Mans Series Pack DLC review

20 February 2012

The “American Le Mans Series Pack” (ALMS) has dropped onto Xbox LIVE Market place and features an eclectic blend of 10 awe-inspiring vehicles – some frightening and others classically memorable.

New content includes:

  • 2011 #2 Audi Sport North America R18 TDI
  • 1991 Mazda #55 Team Mazdaspeed 787B
  • 2011 Bentley Platinum Motorsports Continental GT
  • 2010 Dodge Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Challenger SRT8
  • 1986 #2 Audi Sport quattro S1
  • 2011 Panoz #050 Panoz Racing Abruzzi
  • 1992 Alfa Romeo 155 Q4
  • 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R
  • 2011 Holden HSV GTS
  • 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI

New events include an updated rivals mode featuring the Audi R18 TDI.

Pros

This pack provides a fantastic contrast of exceptional performance vehicles – like the iconic 1991 Mazda 787B to the ultra-modern and cutting edge 2011 Audi R18 TDI.

Not only featuring Le Mans track-bred cars, there is also some added celebrity flair with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s Dodge Charger; as well as the Platinum Motorsports E3 2011 “Car of Show” winner, the Bentley Continental GT.

One car that stuck out head-and-shoulders above the rest is the Mazda 787B. Forza 4 has really captured the essence and soul of this revolutionary classic that became the first and only Japanese car to win the gruelling 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.

With a combination of 4 rotar-powered engines, this car is taxing to one’s senses, and especially one’s hearing!

Cons

A car pack this good had a few worthy contenders for some Autovista treatment. But sadly, none were. And after 6 Car packs and 2 Autovista car DLCs, a new race track DLC now feels long overdue.

Conclusion

The over-all feel of the ALMS pack is more performance-focused for the true racing enthusiasts. The complete DLC weighs a very decent 110MB, and costing 560 MS Points (a little over R70) makes for a bargain and should not be missed.

Note: A Season Pass costs 2400 MS Points which entitles you to six add-on car packs at 10 cars per pack and grants you the Muscle Car Pack for free – and a more substantial long-term saving of 1520 MS Points.
