Mojam spawns ancient Egyptian steampunk real-time strategy racing game

20 February 2012

The Humble Bundle Mojam is over, with 81,571 donations, $458,203.95 in the bank, and at least 2.3 children in Siberia saved from the gulags. Or whatever.

The event saw Minecraft dev team Mojang create a game in 60 hours, live on the internet, over the weekend. The actual game was determined by an online poll, with the team taking the most and least popular choices, and putting them together to make an “ancient Egyptian steampunk real-time strategy racing game” called Catacomb Snatch.

Donators could choose to divvy up their cash between four charities, including Child’s Play, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, charity: water, and the American Red Cross. The donations averaged out at around $5.62, although – as usual – the average Linux donation ($9.11) almost doubled the average PC donation ($5.09), with Mac donations in between ($7.43).

The top contribution was a chunky $2222.22 from Humble Brony, followed up by Mojang’s own Markus “Notch” Persson at $2222.21.
