We hear it all the time; “PC gaming is dying”, or “developers are not willing to invest in PC gaming because console gaming is more profitable.”
Of course, there are elements of truth behind these claims, but at the end of the day, most available evidence suggests that PC gaming is doing just fine. Sure, the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 is never going to match the Xbox 360 version in terms of sales, but that’s not to say that there is not still a healthy market for PC games.
Case in point: Remedy Entertainment has revealed that the PC version of Alan Wake completely paid for itself within 48 hours of being released. The game launched on Steam last week Thursday, 16 February, and despite selling for a reduced $29.99, it has already recouped its marketing and development expenses.
The game has yet to hit retail shelves, and will do so next month. The game will also soon go on sale on EA’s digital distribution platform, Origin.
The PC version of Alan Wake has been optimized to make the best of PC hardware, and includes visual improvements, stereoscopic 3D, multi-screen functionality, and other new features.
