Earlier this week AMD unveiled its second wave of HD7000 cards: the HD7870 and HD7850.
While the HD7970 and HD7950 cater to gamers who want the best of the best, the HD7800 series supposedly accommodates the more budget wary gamer who also wants high-end performance.
Feedback on the cards has been highly positive, and the HD7870 in particular seems to hit an especially sweet spot in terms of pricing and performance. Today we have managed to secure official comment on local availability and pricing on the cards.
Speaking to AMD SA sales manager Jaco Laubscher, we can confirmed that the HD7800 series cards should be priced locally between R2,499 and R2,999.
We also caught up with Landmark Computers boss-guy Andrew van der Nest, who was able to provide more comprehensive pricing details. Landmark will be pricing their first wave of HD7800 cards as follows:
- Sapphire HD7850 2G DDR5 – R2953.64
- Sapphire HD7850 2G OC Edition – R3076.76
- Sapphire HD7870 2G DDR5 – R4307.96
- Sapphire HD7870 2G OC Edition – R4431.08
“Pricing will remain stable here for a while but the release of a nVidia competitor should drive prices down,” said der Nest. “SA will be getting enough stock for initial demand with more brands feeding stock into the market late March.”
The cards will become readily available from 19 March onwards.

Boo at Landmark for their pricing discrepancy/
