Wasteland Kickstarter fund launched, donations going strong

14 March 2012

Almost 25 years on, a Wasteland sequel is finally in the making – and you can help make it happen. Yes, YOU!

Wasteland was one of the inspirations behind Black Isle’s development of the iconic Fallout and Fallout 2 games.

Original Wasteland creator Brian Fargo has launched his Kickstarter funding campaign, and he wants your cash.

The drive has already banked over half a million dollars towards its $900,000 goal, with 34 days to go on the calendar.

Fargo is teaming up with Wasteland designers Alan Pavlich and Mark Stackpole, as well as Fallout music guy Mark Morgan, Fallout co-creator Jason Anderson, and Oblivion concept artist Andrée Wallin for the project.

Not convinced?

“This is probably the last chance for a Wasteland sequel,” warns the Kickstarter blurb. “We have tried to pitch this game multiple times to game publishers, but they’ve balked. They don’t think there’s any interest in a solid, old school type of game. This is our shot at proving them wrong. And more importantly this could help bring back an entire genre of RPGs. The power of the Indie scene continues and we see this as all part of a bigger trend of bringing control back to the developers.”

There are also some pretty sweet incentives for backing the project with $15 or more, with a pledge of $10,000 bagging you a personal meetup with the developers to talk “design, previous works, or anything else”, an in-game shrine in your honour, 50 copies of the game, a medal, and everybody’s love, forever and ever.
