Rocksmith: rocking SA in 2012

16 March 2012

Last year, Ubisoft’s legit rock star simulator Rocksmith launched in North America – and only in North America.

The Euro snub effectively left the UK (and by extension, South Africa) empty-handed; dashing all of our collective dreams of becoming the rock stars we know we were born to be.

Well, it’s time to go and dig out your tight leather pants and studded gloves – because Rocksmith is finally coming to South Africa, and your journey to becoming a rock star can begin.

If you missed the buzz, Rocksmith is to Guitar Hero what CERN is to your high school chem lab:

Instead of using a simple, plastic guitar and strumming along to your favourite songs, the ‘game’ aims to teach you how to play guitar. Like, a REAL guitar. Hardcore.

From complete newbies to rock masters, the game adapts to your skill level, and also teaches you along the way. The “Guitarcade” minigames keep you entertained, while also developing and teaching you news skills.

Rocksmith will allow gamers to connect any real guitar with a standard quarter-inch jack into the USB port of aa Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Using the bundled Real Tone Cable, the game interprets a digital signal from the analogue vibrations of the guitar.

The UK version of Rocksmith will include the original game already released in North America plus exclusive additional content, and through a partnership with Gibson, will come in a bundle that includes an Epiphone Les Paul Junior electric guitar.

The game includes over 50 tracks from classic rock bands to current international artists, such as:

  • Blur – Song 2
  • David Bowie – Rebel Rebel
  • Eric Clapton – Run Back To Your Side
  • Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out
  • Incubus – I Miss You
  • Interpol – Slow Hands
  • Lenny Kravitz – Are You Gonna Go My Way
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd – Sweet Home Alabama
  • Muse – Unnatural Selection
  • Nirvana – In Bloom
  • Pixies – Where Is My Mind?
  • Queens Of The Stone Age – Go With The Flow
  • Radiohead – High And Dry
  • The Rolling Stones – (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction
  • The White Stripes – Icky Thump
  • Velvet Revolver – Slither

So when can we get our rock awwwwn? October 2012. I’m already wearing my leather pants in anticipation.
