Disgruntled ME3 gamer files false advertising complaint against EA

17 March 2012

It seems no one was particularly thrilled about the ending of Mass Effect 3, with a wave of protest crashing across the internet soon after the game’s release. Frankly, people kind of hated it.

However this level of dissatisfaction has reached a new extreme – one disgruntled gamer has filed an FTC (Federal Trade Commission) complaint against EA for what he says is “false advertising”.

In his own words, “After reading through the list of promises about the ending of the game they made in their advertising campaign and PR interviews, it was clear that the product we got did not live up to any of those claims.”

“This is not something I was happy to do, but after the terrible ending that was in no way the product that had been advertised to me and the lack of any kind of response from Bioware/EA to address this, I felt it was one of my only recourses.”

This was posted in a forum thread on the BioWare website, which at time of writing is currently sitting at 27 pages, with many posters showing support for the movement.

If nothing else, it’ll certainly get EA’s attention.

My main issue isn’t that fans don’t like the ending, it’s that they’re DEMANDING it. You just don’t do that. Ever seen someone throwing a hissy fit in a theatre and demanding their money back because the ending wasn’t what they wanted? Yeah, they get thrown out. Same thing would happen in a restaurant or, in fact, anywhere else but gaming is apparently the exception.

I’m not saying that Mass Effect 3 is a perfect game but, Jesus, gamers are the worst type of fans of all the entertainment mediums.
