After almost ten years of deathlike slumber, is the vengeful vampire lord Kain to be re-awoken and unleashed upon this wicked world? Rumours say “yes”.
That’s according to VG247, whose anonymous industry source has told the site that Crystal Dynamics is working on a Soul Reaver reboot with a “new art direction”, which makes sense considering how much graphics technology has advanced since 2003.
That’s pretty much all there is to it for the moment, though. Make of it what you will.
The first two Soul Reaver games were part of the critically acclaimed Legacy of Kain series, starting with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain back in 1996.
The first game was developed in cooperation between Crystal Dynamics and Silicon Knights, but after a heap of legal drama, Crystal Dynamics acquired the rights to the brand on condition that Silicon Knights be credited as the original creator in future releases.
The studio is currently busy with the Tomb Raider reboot, due to launch later this year.
