Zynga acquires OMGPOP, back on top of Facebook

22 March 2012

Earlier this week, OMGPOP‘s game Draw Something beat out Zynga‘s Words With Friends to become the Facebook #1.

So what did Zynga do? They acquired OMGPOP. Business science!

According to a report over on AllThingsD, Zynga paid about $200 million for the 40-man, New York-based studio, although the cost in integrity and immortal souls remains undisclosed.

“The OMGPOP team has created a game that’s fun, expressive and engenders real social interaction,” said Zynga CEO Mark Pincus a press release.

“Draw Something has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world. We love the way they’ve worked playful and relevant culture into their games from Devo to Daft Punk, from Lin to Beckham.”

“We’re honored to have the opportunity to partner with and support such an innovative team of creative inventors.”

The acquisition was accompanied by an audible “OM NOM NOM”, said bystanders.
