Dead Space was one of 2008’s surprise hits. Unlike Farcry 2, Fallout 3 and Fable 2, Dead space was brand new IP, and hardly made a sound on its way in. The title sold over 1 million copies in 2008 across the PC,PS3 and Xbox 360.
Following the announcement of the game breaking the 1 million sales mark, EA announced that it would be coming to the Nintendo Wii sometime this year.
Many have voiced concerns that a Wii version will be a poor addition to the series, however, in business terms; EA would have to be absolutely bonkers to not take the massive success of the game to the world’s most owned current generation console.
The Wii’s audience is often described as a more casual crowd. Dead Space is anything but a game targeted at casual gamers, if anything it’s one of the most frightening audio-visual-media experiences ever made. It will therefore be interesting to see how well the title sells on Nintendo’s “cutesy” platform.
It also remains to be seen if the Wii is packing enough of a punch in the hardware department to deliver an experience that at least does not embarrass the technical astonishment that is Dead Space for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
