EA has released a 1.5GB patch for the PC version of Battlefield 3 today (29 March 2012). You can check out the major patch notes on the MyGaming forum – Battlefield 3 Patch 1.04 is live

Alongside bug fixes and balance tweaks, the publisher has now made it possible for players to pay for new gear and unlocks via “shortcut boxes.”

These will essentially allow players to pay money to immediately gain access to items that they would otherwise have to unlock by playing the game.

The bundles are supposed to be out already, but there is no sign of them yet in the local Origin store. When they do go live, there will be a Kit Shortcut bundle that will immediately unlock all items unique to the four playable classes,” a Vehicle Shortcut Bundle that unlocks all items for all vehicles, and the “Ultimate Bundle” which unlocks “all items from all other available shortcut packs,” which is basically everything.

Players will also be able to buy individual class kits for $6.99 (R54), or the Ultimate bundle for $39.99 (R310).

We’re not sure how we feel about this new feature [James is outraged!] as it will essentially remove one of the core elements of Battlefield 3 – the long-hard slog of levelling up your soldier into a killing-machine to be feared.

Let us know what you think of this development in the comments below and on the MyGaming forum.

Guys they are actually giving noobs the chance to get back in the game. I mean think about the poor suckers who are lvl 20 – sumthing and they are getting sniper by lvl 60 guys from everywhere with equipment they’ve never seen before. Give some love.

What does bother me though is why the hell is it 1.5 Gb!?!?!??!?!? The first time I saw it i thought they probably included the next expansion in it, but just these “shortcut’s”? I mean cmon. Where am I going to get the cap, time and patience to download an update which for 80% I dont give a damn about. They should stop including their marketing shit in our game updates ffs
