It’s no secret anymore – Mass Effect 3’s ending wasn’t everything many gamers had hoped it would be; don’t worry, no spoilers here.
Whether through mass-petition action, or mass-baking of cupcakes, fans of the Mass Effect series have been banging on BioWare’s doors looking for answers – and now, coming this summer (our winter) you’ll get them.
Well, probably.
EA has announced Mass Effect 3 ‘Extended Cut’ DLC, to be released, for free, in the coming weeks/months – and it will remain free for download until 12 April, 2014. Yes, that’s two years from now.
The DLC’s main purpose is to offer fans “further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3” through “additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes” which will give “deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes.”
So a whole new ending?
“No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned,” said BioWare on their announcement page.
So it’s not a new ending, but rather a pack of clarity, which BioWare studio co-founder, Ray Muzyka believes will satisfy the nerdrage.
“With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc,” he told Joystiq.
So BioWare sticks to its guns, but explains things a bit more – hopefully this will be enough calm the riled up gamers who hated the ending, as well as put at ease the gamers who think the former are entitled cry-babies.
