Microsoft wants Kinect to recognise your posture and tone of voice

7 April 2012

In a further step towards electronics becoming self-aware and enslaving the human race, Microsoft’s Kinect chief Kudo Tsunoda wants future versions of the device to react to players’ posture and tone of voice.

Tsunoda said R&D is focusing on “how we can make people more like actors within a narrative.” Or subjects of the robot overmind.

He continued, “We want to get to the stage where not only can Kinect detect what you’re saying but also tone of voice and body stance, and work that into the narrative. There are some really compelling experiences to be gained from that.”

He also said that they’d like to “create experiences that help you develop real world skills that help you in other parts of your life,” which is odd since we already have The Sims.

Kudo added that he was excited by what they are seeing from Kinect’s “development community”.

“It’s been great to see how people are using Kinect in ways that we would never have thought of.

“I’m continually surprised by the stuff we see from Kinect’s development community on a daily basis. That’s what I’m most excited about: how much room there is to invent new things with Kinect.”

We’re all doomed.
