Nintendo’s Miyamoto jealous of Angry Birds

13 April 2012

The legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto wishes that he thought of Angry Birds before developer Rovio.

The famed video game creator, who is the mind behind iconic franchises such as Super Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong, seemed envious when asked by Hookshot about which games he had been enjoying on his smartphone.

“Angry Birds is a very simple idea but it’s one of those games that I immediately appreciated when I first started playing, before wishing that I had been the one to come up with the idea first.”

He added: “I mean, obviously I want to be the one creating the most convincing, surprising game ideas,” he said.

When asked what stands out about Angry Birds, the designer said the controls, stating that they are “excellent” and “once you’ve mastered them, you have a lot of precision”.

Miyamoto also went on to say: “Obviously, if the developer had created the game for Nintendo DS the controls would have been even better, but what can you do?”
