AMD announces 40nm laptop GPU

3 March 2009

AMD has announced the new ATi mobility Radeon series. The HD 4860 and HD 4830 are the first notebook graphics accelerators to ever make use of a 40nm fabrication process.

The Mobile HD 4860 and 4830 are based on the same architecture that is use in AMD’s successful desktop HD 4800 series, and both feature GDDR5 and DDR3 memory respectively.

The first notebooks to incorporate the new Mobility HD 4800 series will be the Asus K series. The K series is scheduled for launch in early Q2 of 2009, so we should see the laptops launch around April, coinciding with the launch of AMD’s first 40nm desktop GPU, the RV740.
